About the Zebra
Three species of Zebra live in Africa today. The commonest and best known is Burchell's Zebra and is a definite black and white variety. In the northern areas there is Chapman's Zebra, while in the southwest the Hartmann's Zebra is to be found.
Our Zebra is Chapman's ... it's zoological name being Equus burchelli antiquorum. On the head we can see vague suggestions of the 'shadow stripes', secondary and lighter coloured stripes centrally spaced through the lighter stripes that feature more prominently on the main body portion.
"Glory", as this particular Zebra is known, is a resident of the San Diego Zoo, and has been designed from a photograph Graeme took one particularly hot day during a visit in the summer of 1993.
