Fibre

Crafty Frog carries an extensive selection of wool & yarn for knitting, crocheting, and more.

The following guide may help when chosing the best yarn for the project you wish to undertake:

  • Wool/Fleecethe fine, soft curly or wavy hair forming the coat of a sheep, goat, or similar animal, especially when shorn and prepared for use in making cloth or yarn.  Mohair comes from Angora goats and cashmere comes from Kashmir goats.  Angora comes from the hair of Angora rabbits & not Angora goats.
  • Silk: a fine, strong, soft lustrous fibre produced by silkworms in making cocoons and collected to make thread.
  • Cotton: a soft white fibrous substance which surrounds the seeds of the cotton plant and is made into textile fibre and thread for knitting, crochet and sewing
  • linen:
  • rayon: The slippery, smooth, and often shiny yarns.
  • Synthetic: Including nylon, acrylic, and polyester. Straddling the border between natural and synthetic are soy, bamboo, corn, and other unusual yarns made by using plant-based materials.
  • Novelty: Novelty yarns are easy to recognize because their appearance is so different from traditional yarns.
